Nantou City Creative Design

Project Background

Nantou City (nantoucity.com) is an integrated commercial and residential area in Shenzhen. Through a series of creative experience planning and designs, it aims to continuously attract tourists and businesses while enhancing the community atmosphere and resident experience.

The project team has selected several public areas for renovation. I owned the creative concept development and mural design for a selected area, which included space planning, wall art creating, and localized creative upgrades of public facilities (such as bulletin boards, seating areas, and lighting). I worked with the team to complete the production, guidance system, exhibition event organization, and the content creation.

The Concept & Design

Nantou City is a historic district dating back 1,700 years, serving as the root of Shenzhen and Hong Kong’s shared urban history. Given this context, we selected “growth” as the central theme to resonate with both its historical heritage and its identity as a welcoming community for newcomers.

For the wall art, I incorporated floral and botanical design elements to foster a friendly, vibrant atmosphere. The three flowers in the center form the shape of the Chinese character "街" (street), echoing the design of the other areas.. We also designated flexible spots throughout the area for temporary exhibitions and events, allowing new creative ideas to flow freely and continuously sparking dialogue and interaction within the community.

At the same time, we took into consideration that the space carries functional needs, such as supporting residents to share notices, walk at night, and easily find specific buildings.
