Creative Strategy of Expression

An introduction of the consulting service, my background and the creative philosophy.

This consulting service was born out of conversations with several lifestyle brand creators this year, a new collab and ongoing insights. I realized I could combine the underlying process of artistic creation with my previous experience in product management, marketing, and UX design into strategies that help brands shape their image and grow.

My Experience: From a Data-Driven Mindset to a Sustainable Growth Philosophy

From 2013 to late 2024, my day job centered on product positioning, experience design, and growth strategy within the tech industry. I specialized in user research, Product-Market Fit (PMF), business model design, growth strategy, and conversion optimization.

In the later stages of this phase, traditional traffic-driven growth began to lose its efficacy, and I needed a new roadmap in a new era. At the same time, the artistic skills I had been cultivating alongside began to mature, which became the timing for me to shift my career direction.

Since 2025, I have been refining my artistic style and merging my creative skills with my past tech expertise into a unified workflow. This workflow covers from cultural and trend research, strategic positioning, creative direction & concept development, to artwork creation & design. During this transition, I developed a new, sustainable growth philosophy: defining goals around identity, and then building an edge through continuous, purposeful action.

Now I apply this multidisciplinary skill set to creative projects, building and elevating products, experiences, and communities.

“What is Expression?” — From an Artist’s Perspective

Now, as an artist and designer, my work revolves around "expression." I view "expression" as a cyclical process: internally, a continuous exploration of the self; externally, the building of bridges that create ongoing opportunities for conversations and collaborations.

  • On an Emotional Level: Exploring the self means understanding one's personality, motivations, and values, while maintaining an open mind to observe, receive, and transform various experiences. This continuous exploration allows the creator to uncover meaning and have a unique artistic style, transforming abstract, philosophical concepts of identity into tangible, perceptible, and creative forms.

  • On a Rational/Strategic Level: This exploration also involves understanding the environment and timing in which expression occurs. This includes defining the purpose of the expression (what reaction to trigger, what impression to leave, how to be remembered and trusted) and choosing the specific scenarios where these expressions appear.

Externally, for collaborators, I convey value in more business-oriented language, reduce ambiguity, and facilitate consensus. The measurable deliverables are simply the visible results of this cycle appearing on the surface.

The Strategic Consulting Service

I center my consulting practice around my expertise—navigating expression in a complex world to achieve greater business results.

  • Branding localization for China: Build content asset and tailor brand messages for specific cultural contexts.

  • Creative strategy: Translate vague brand imagery into a clear, living identity; Express the brand's identity through actions and deliverables; Collaborate on any other creative visions you’d love to discuss. I can also bring in some other creatives and agencies.

Brands are like people. They evolve, engage, and reflect their own DNA through design and communication, and need constant cultivation.

“何为表达?”——从艺术家视角的理解

现在作为艺术家和设计师,我的职业以“表达”为中心,我把它视为一个对内持续探索自身、对外建立桥梁,从而不断创造对话和合作机会的循环过程。

从情感的层面上,探索自身意味着知道自己的个性、动机、价值观,同时保持开放心态去观察、接收和转化各种体验、知识、文艺作品,从而能不断地挖掘出意义,最终通过作品呈现出一些巧思和难以用语言直接描述的质感和风格,把抽象的、哲学性的身份概念变成有形象、可感知、有创意的形态。

从理性策略的层面上,这种探索还意味着理解表达所发生的的环境场域和时机,比如定义表达目的(要激发什么样的反应、留下什么印象、更被记住和信任),选择让这些表达出现在什么场景里。

对外面向合作伙伴时,我把这些过程翻译成更商业化的语言,来传递价值、减少模糊,以及促成共识。可衡量的交付物是这个循环呈现在水面上的结果。

  • 品牌本地化:构建品牌资产,文化翻译等。

  • 品牌升级:将模糊的品牌形象愿景变为现实,提高品牌调性;通过可执行的行动和成果,帮助品牌以更微妙和恰当的方式表达自身。

品牌就像人,会发展、互动,并通过设计和沟通反映自己的基因,也需要持续浇灌才能成长。
